Church of San Francesco

Leaving the tangle of streets in the center, guided by the sea breeze, you arrive at the Villa comunale, which offers suggestions and dreamy views of the entire Gulf of Naples, there where the sea glistens that Enrico Caruso loved to admire from his hotel room and which, long afterwards, inspired Lucio Dalla's celebrated "Caruso," dedicated precisely to the great tenor.

Near the Town Villa is the beautiful church of St. Francis, dating back to the 14th century but completely revised in Baroque style between 1690 and 1727. The white marble facade was built two centuries later, on the seventh centenary of the death of St. Francis. Splendid is the 14th-century cloister of the convent attached to the church, with rounded and interlaced marble side arches. A true masterpiece of art and architecture not to be missed.
