Sedil Dominova

From Corso Italia and penetrating into the city center, among the aristocratic palaces that make wings to the narrow streets stretching towards the decumanus minor, corresponding to the present Via San Cesareo, one suddenly finds oneself before one of the main monuments of Sorrento: the Sedil Dominova.

In the large loggia, opened on two sides by piperno arches, the nobles residing in the western part of the city gathered since the 14th century, while those in the eastern part referred to the Sedile di Porta.
All that remains today of the original "domus nova" is the characteristic 16th-century yellow and green majolica dome by the famous Chiaiese, and the walls frescoed in the 18th century by artists from Carlo Amalfi's workshop. In 1871 it became the headquarters of the Società Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso. Today it is the only example of a space from the ancient Seats that has come down to us.
